Tri-City News ArticleDate Posted: October 14, 2007Nature's Kaleidoscope Ask any child to describe a rock and they'll say its grey. Ask a rockhound and they will go into great detail about how rocks can be any colour of the rainbow. To prove this fact, the Port Moody Rock and Gem Club is presenting "Nature's Kaleidoscope, a Rainbow of Gems and Minerals" at the Kyle Centre in Port Moody. This annual rock show runs Saturday, October 27th and Sunday the 28th, 2007 from 10 AM to 5 PM, both days. Bright green malachite, brilliant red agates, and intense blue lapis, a colourful spectacle of stones will be on display. Not only can you gawk at the spectrum of gems, you can observe the lapidary creativity in the workshop and the various demonstrations. Children can build their own stone sculptures in the free Kids Creative Workshop, try their luck at Gold Panning, or get totally destructive at the Rock Smash. How about getting your brain stimulated at the Geology Theatre or discover the powers of Holistic Healing with Gems? There are mineral collections from around the world that you can take home from the dealers' tables, as well as jewellery and craft supplies. The members' tables offer handcrafted gift items including unique jewellery pieces. A busy and colourful time can be had by all in the family, and to keep your energy levels up, the concession booth will offer a fabulous selection of homemade food including vegetarian selections. Entry is by donation and there are hourly door prizes. Mother Nature will be there in all her colourful hard rock diversity. Come visit "Nature's Kaleidoscope" at the Kyle Centre, 125 Kyle Street, Port Moody, October 27th and 28th, 2007. For more details, visit www.portmoodyrockclub.com. |
