Fieldtrip: Buse Lake Blue AgateDate Posted: June 13, 2007The BCLS (British Columbia Lapidary Society) will be hosting a fieldtrip to Buse Lake for blue agate. This is a claimed area, so this is an excellent opportunity to dig for that fabulous deep blue agate that is similar to the south African “blue-lace” agate that is actually grey-blue. The Buse Lake blue agate is indeed blue. The location is a few miles outside of Kamloops on easily accessible back roads with a crossing through some private ranch lands. When: Saturday June 16th and Sunday June 17th Meeting Place: The PetroCanada gas station, a few miles east of Kamloops on highway #1, at the Barnhartvale road exit, 9:00 AM. Leader: Win Robertson, 250-376-4878 If you plan on going it is recommended you call the group leader to ensure the event is still a go. Tools for this location are digging tools, such as shovel, small pick, spray bottle, and rock hammer. You can pick up the odd surface piece, but digging in the loose clay is essential! Bring your lunch, drinking water & mosquito repellant. For those with small campers or tenting, there will be a dry camp not too far from the location. There is a good RV park with all facilities & a good tenting area on Hwy 1 8km east of the Barnhartvale turnoff: Kamloops RV Park For motel dwellers, there are a number of motels along Hwy 1 east of Kamloops, only 15 or so minutes drive from the meeting place. Lamplighter Motel Thrift Lodge Rider's Motor Inn For more information and a list of other upcoming fieldtrips, please see http://www.lapidary.bc.ca/trips.html. IMPORTANT: BC Wagon Masters will be asking all participants to "sign-in" acknowledging that the participant is indeed responsible for their own conduct and safety. Participants must be members in good standing of a club belonging to the B.C. Lapidary Society, be a member in good standing of a GMFC affiliate club or be a sponsored guest with a club member. Club members would include our neighbors from the US who belong to the US clubs, and who are always welcome on BC Wagonmaster trips. |
