Broom Casting Workshop

Date Posted: March 11, 2007

Walt Pinder from the Maple Ridge Club will be hosting a "broom casting" workshop on Monday, March 19th starting at 7:30 PM at Kyle Centre.

What is broom casting is exactly? Basically, molten silver is poured onto a wet corn broom. The hot metal burns its way through the broom forming an interesting "castle-like" shape as it goes. Once cooled the silver form can be made into jewelry (drill a hole through it for a pendant perhaps?) or be added to your display cabinet/collection.

Participants will need an ounce of casting silver. You can buy this at a supply store (Mountain Gems). If you are unable to purchase the silver in time Ken Ayres will be selling casting silver at the workshop for $15/ounce. All participants are also asked to bring $2.00 to help buy Walt a new broom.

There is a limit of 15 people for this workshop. We already have about 5 signed up so let us know as soon as you can if you wish to participate by calling Andrew Danneffel at 604-942-3009.

This should prove to be an entertaining and unique workshop! Don't miss out.
